Rubén Fausto Murillo is a composer, musicologist and music educator trained at UAQ and UAB. He has built an extensive career as an orchestra and choir conductor in Mexico and Spain, notably serving as assistant conductor at the Filarmónica de Querétaro. He currently teaches at «Bruc Obert» and leads the digital project Notas con música, where he combines podcasting with concert reviews for the Palau de la Música Catalana.

Bachelor’s degree in Composition from the Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro (UAQ, 2001) and graduate in Musicology from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB, 2020).

He has undertaken studies in musical composition with masters such as Ignacio Baca-Lobera and Mauricio Beltral, and in orchestral conducting with Antoni Ros-Marbà, Enrique Bátiz, Sergio Cárdenas, Salvador Mas and José Guadalupe Flores.

The latter appointed him assistant conductor of the Filarmónica de Querétaro between 2000 and 2002.

He has extensive experience in musical direction, both orchestral and choral, in Mexico and Spain.

For 6 years he hosted music outreach radio programmes in Mexico, publishing regularly in various outlets in both countries such as Cultural Resuena and El Universal Querétaro, as well as giving talks and lectures in a wide variety of forums for more than 20 years.

He has been a teacher at «Bruc Obert» since its founding in 2011.

Since 2021 he has run a widely followed music website, from which he produces a podcast called Notas con música.

Starting this 2022/23 season, within the same project, he begins writing reviews of concerts held at the Palau de la Música Catalana, with a view to extending it to more venues across the region.
