Spanish Poetry Anthology

A representative selection of Spanish poetry, spanning from the Middle Ages to the present day: J. Ruiz, the Archpriest of Hita, Francisco de Quevedo, José de Espronceda, Rosalía de Castro, Joan Maragall, Antonio Machado, J. Ramón Jiménez, F. García Lorca, Rafael Alberti, Blas de Otero… Their verses are transformed into songs for voice, guitar, cello, and percussion.

Each piece blends diverse musical styles — from traditional folklore to pop and flamenco — interwoven with classical influences. The result is a collection of songs that evoke both familiarity and emotion, resonating with audiences of every background.

The concert is enriched by projected paintings from celebrated Spanish artists, offering visual interpretations — sometimes metaphorical, sometimes literal — of each poem.

In this dialogue between the arts lies the essence of this Multidisciplinary Performance: a living encounter between music, poetry, and painting.

This project offers two possible presentations:

  • The Artistic Presentation, aimed at general audiences.
  • The Educational Presentation, designed especially for secondary school and high school students.

In either format, the project can be presented as a participatory concert, in which the audience — students or general public — becomes part of the performance, reciting each poem before it is interpreted by the musicians.

Each performance includes a brief introduction of every poem, providing the audience with insight into its meaning and the intimate process of composition.

For the school presentation, the event concludes with an interactive session — a discussion between students and musicians — addressing questions that arise from studying the poets and their works, as well as any curiosities about the composition process of the project or the concert itself.

The main objectives of this Educational Project, both in the classroom (with prior preparation) and during the concert, are to:

  • DISCOVER the richness of Spanish poetry and each poet within their historical context, as well as the connection with painting.
  • WORK WITH and ANALYZE the texts.
  • LEARN the poems by heart, individually or in groups.
  • RECITE in class and during the concert performance.
  • LISTEN, FEEL, and UNDERSTAND the union of “text and music.”
  • APPRECIATE “the word” as an essential part of expression, intertwined with sound and melody, exploring the rhythmic structure of each poem and song.
  • FAMILIARIZE with the instruments heard during the concert.
  • ENJOY live music.
  • INTERACT with the musicians and take part in the Multidisciplinary Performance.

To prepare the poems in the classroom before the concert, a pedagogical dossier will be provided, containing all texts and their corresponding supplementary materials.
