The Secret Violence
Social Action Project
The Secret Violence is a Multidisciplinary Artistic Educational Project of Creation: Musical, dramaturgical, choreographic, and audiovisual, presenting a series of material and human resources, using songs and their subsequent theatrical interpretation or body expression (dance or mime) and elaboration and exhibition of images and worked photographs. All this, as pedagogical tools to work in the classroom on equality and the prevention of gender violence.
The chosen songs are well-known songs in Catalan, Spanish, and English (one) ranging from the 70s to the present and where the main themes are: sexist stereotypes, inequality suffered by women, gender violence… in short, a reality in which we live today, unfortunately, still throughout Spain.
It is necessary and essential that from within the classrooms we continue working with adolescents for respect, gender equality, the elimination of micro-sexism and so that they can participate in the future in the construction of a more egalitarian, just, and supportive society.
In “The Secret Violence”, music, stage-body expression, and audiovisual arts are the three vertebral columns because:
– Through music, we will motivate and stimulate students in a close way. Learning a song implies working on lyrics (verbal intelligence), working on music (sensory intelligence), and enhancing creativity.
– Through Theater and Body Movement, we will discover and open two communication channels to students: that of self-awareness and interpersonal. In staging, we work on the exchange of opinions, respect, and tolerance towards the group’s ideas; it facilitates dialogue with classmates and then helps them in individual reflection.
– Through research work and manipulation and creation of images, photographs, slogans, and everything related to the audiovisual world, we fully enter the powerful and literal message of visualizing the message of VIOLENCE – NON-VIOLENCE.
Therefore, from these three axes, it is about Educating Emotional Intelligence and thus raising awareness among adolescents about the importance of working on non-violence from this age and from the closest relationships.
OBJECTIVES:
- TO SENSITIZE students about the processes of gender violence, how they are gestated, how they endure over time, and their consequences.
- TO MAKE students AWARE of the different forms of abuse.
- TO REVEAL the cultural-sexist stereotypes existing in family relationships and tasks, in the use of language, in the media, at school, in parents’ work…
- TO BECOME AWARE of their existence and their consequences, since they feed violence towards women and continue to be transmitted to new generations.
- TO KNOW the alternatives to get out of these processes of dependency and pain.
- TO DEVELOP the culture of equality in different human relationships.
- TO FOSTER the values of NON-violence, equality, and justice.
- TO PROPITIATE reflection and internalization of values in a motivating way through songs and dramatizations.
- TO IDENTIFY and UNDERSTAND the role that many people who have dedicated and dedicate themselves to music in our society have played and play, putting it at the service of a cause: the defense of human rights for all humanity.
- TO PARTICIPATE in Workshops with professionals from both Theater and Dance, as well as Music and Singing.
- TO PERFORM live with professional musicians and stage all the work done in class and workshops.
